Omega’s 75th Anniversary Celebration
What We Know
- Omega recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Seamaster with a slew of updates across the entire collection, but the modern centerpiece is the Seamaster Diver 300m (SMP300m).
- The 2018 release of SMP300m featured a 42mm upsizing from its previous 41mm version and controversial exhibition caseback showcasing the METAS-certified Co-Axial caliber 8800.
- The 75th-anniversary Seamaster introduces thoughtful changes, including an ornate closed caseback with Poseidon and his trident etched prominently and a gradient “Summer Blue” smoked dial treatment, while maintaining the existing 42mm size.

What We Think
Although Omega has chosen iteration over innovation and delivered a handsome take on an already winning formula, it could have done more to make the 75th Anniversary watch truly special. While the creative Smoked dial design is praiseworthy, the lack of tapering steel bracelet and the absence of an updated bracelet are impending shortcomings. The James Bond Anniversary Seamaster released at the end of last year could have been an excellent starting point for a home run on this 75th anniversary.
It seems this new Seamaster is a celebratory watch for omega collectors looking to add to their collection rather than their everyday watch.
